On The Rocks (2013)
In On The Rocks, I synthesize gender and sexual politics through my gay American autobiography. The story starts in private, preparing for the club. Do I wear the heels? How will I be judged? And will I still be desired? On an even deeper level, is something wrong with femininity? I wear sneakers instead.
I go to the club to feel community, ecstasy, love. I dull my desires, drinking myself into a fever-dream instead. Surreality plays like an epic in red, angry, passionate and full. What vulnerable truths lie under this epic display?
"You have everything for me, but what can I give you?
I can dance on a sheet close to cracking.
I can settle in your gaze.
I can even fall apart for some four-letter word.
But what do I get falling between the ice in our shared cocktail?
I'll dream about it on the floor
Parched."
