THE DYBBUK PART 2

or Still Between 2 Worlds

In an imagined sequel to S. Ansky’s famous Yiddish play "The Dybbuk,” in which a 19th-century Chasidic-Russian bride dies after being possessed by the demonic spirit (or ‘dybbuk’) of her former lover, a single & lonely queer performer seeks to help repair her soul, now a dybbuk too, by inviting it to possess them in a drag show. Queer pop culture collides with Yiddish folkloric mysticism, ultimately revealing how gender dysphoria disturbs intimacy; how it can feel like an inescapable purgatory, almost.
